Evaluation of Glyoxal-Based Electrolytes for Lithium-Sulfur Batteries

Lithium-sulfur batteries (LSBs) are among the most promising next generation battery technologies. First prototype cells show higher specific energies than conventional Li-ion (LIBs) and active material is cost-effective ubiquitously abundant. However, Li-S still suffer from several limitations, mainly cycle life, inflation of cells, also lack a component production value chain. As this system based on complex conversion mechanism, electrolyte plays key role, not only for energy, but rate capability, stability costs. Herein, we report electrolytes glyoxylic-acetal solvents, Tetraethoxyglyoxal (TEG) Tetramethoxyglyoxal (TMG). These solvents have been examined before supercapacitors LIBs, never LSBs, although they exhibit some beneficial properties, chain has already well established as precursors chemicals. A specially adapted composition by adjusting solvent ratio LiTFSI concentration in TXG:DOL blend. The obtained long life high coulombic efficiencies without use LiNO3, leading normally to cell safety issues. In addition, successful evaluation multilayer Li-S-pouch was performed. were thoroughly characterized, their sulfur mechanism discussed.
